The “Nudge Nudge” to Success

Most of the songwriters and musicians I have the opportunity to work with dream pretty big about where their music can take them. Some are more grounded, others already think they’re there, yet for the most part I spend my days working with dreams instead of goals.

My mother is a recently successful author, getting ready to release her second full length novel called “Terms of Surrender” (check it out at her website www.sheilaseabrook.com). When I was younger, though, she was anything but successful.  HOWEVER!!!  On the wall right above eye level at her desk, she had a great little motivational message.

A goal is a dream with a deadline…

That is one of those quotes that has stayed with me, and I try to bring that thought and motivation to ALL my clients in hopes they can find some level of success just by turning their dreams into goals.  Of course, most of the time I get the proverbial eye roll when they hear how much work is involved to do it.

That’s essentially the difference between success in music and dreams of music careers, the amount of work required.  Everyone knows it.  Few actually will themselves to commit to it.

The great thing is, I see so much potential come through my studio that I’m going to keep talking about it, keep encouraging, keep supporting every dreamer or hobbyist musician and songwriter.  That’s just what I do.
